About

Sarah began her musical journey as a child in Sheffield. She joined Sheffield Music Academy (SMA), part of the Government Music and Dance Scheme supporting exceptionally talented young musicians. Here she studied piano for 8 years and violin for 10 years, latterly with Martin Cropper. As a senior student she was entrusted with teaching and assisting with ensemble coaching of junior string players.

Currently she is continuing her studies with Catherine Yates at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

She made her concerto debut in Sheffield at the age of 10 playing ‘Summer’ from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Winning the inaugural John Grundy SMA concerto competition two years later with a performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.3. Subsequently she has performed both in the UK and internationally with concerts in Spain, Italy and Malta. Sarah completed her SMA career, as joint soloist, with a performance of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.

An avid and dedicated chamber musician, Sarah relished her leadership of the SMA premier quartet, senior string ensemble and chamber orchestra during her final 3 years at the Academy. This afforded opportunities to work with a number of eminent musicians, including Robin Ireland, Richard Jenkinson, Jeremy Young, Naomi Atherton, in addition to ‘side by side’ projects with Music in the Round BRIDGE scheme winners Marmen Quartet, Ensemble 360 and The Halle. Performance appearances include Classical Sheffield Weekends, RNCM String Festival, ‘If Music be the Food of Love…’ tribute concerts to Peter Cropper and Piccadilly Sinfonietta. She is also a founding member of the Razlin Quartet.

A keen orchestral player Sarah was a member of NCO as a child, subsequently joining The City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra. She took the position of concertmaster from 2017 with repertoire including performances of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Dvorak Cello Concerto with distinguished soloist Matthew Barley.

In the future, Sarah hopes to continue working with the Razlin Quartet and create other chamber opportunities. She also wishes to pursue teaching.
